Continued Studies in Scenography

The Academy, a full-time, paid training program, is composed of actors, designers, directors, playwrights, and producers. The curriculum aims to develop theatre artists who will, upon graduation, be ready to create, contribute to, and work with Soulpepper and other professional performing arts companies. Soulpepper strives to play a significant role in the development of future generations of theatre artists through the Soulpepper Academy. This two-year program was launched in 2006 with the fifth class finishing in 2018.

Devisor

This Chekhov Shorts Project is an investigation into the practice of adapting a short story into a piece of theatre using scenography as a key lens through which to filter the work. The adaptation places emphasis on the relationship between performer, space and design. The experiment is to see how scenography can play a key role in conceptually shaping adaptation and serve as a dramaturgical tool.  Adapted by Sina Gilani and directed by Mumbi Tindyebwa Otu, Soulpepper, 2017.

In this whimsical new musical presentation with lyrics by Sarah Wilson and music by Mike Ross, based on Gertrude Stein’s children’s book The World Is Round, nine-year-old Rose has some big questions, and not a lot of answers. With the help of her best friend Willie, and her dog Love, Rose takes a magical journey to discover her place in the world. This work was first presented in a concert format at Soulpepper in 2016 and is being further developed towards a full production in the future. Stay tuned!
